BRIEF: ‘D Big Apple Calypso Revue has been an integral part of the Labor Day Caribbean celebrations for the past five years. A vital cultural tradition, the Calypso Tent, provides wholesome entertainment for people in the boroughs while at the same time providing an additional economic earner for calypso performers from the Caribbean as well as local entrepreneurs. This year, however, the tent faces a daunting challenge with an escalating operating budget and dwindling resources. Community leaders and local elected officials have rallied behind organizers with the hope of keeping this vital element of the carnival celebrations alive. They will come together to discuss strategies, examine possibilities as well as initiate the critical about this virtual drought in financial assistance to sustain community-based projects such as ‘D Big Apple Calypso Revue. The producers of ’D Big Apple Calypso Revue remain committed to ensuring that quality affordable family entertainment continues as part of the pre-Labor Day Carnival calendar.
